In the heart of Rio, at the so called Cinelândia (Movieland, in a quick translation) , where everything happens, from political demonstrations to music festivals, including the famous Gay Pride parade, is one of the best known bohemian bars of Rio de Janeiro: Bar Amarelinho - the Little Yellow. True to its name, all outside the building is painted of yellow. Its awning is yellow. Its tables and chairs are yellow. Like the best beer in town. Also inside, the yellow predominates. Yellow of the sun, the heat of summer. All the year.

No coração do Rio, na chamada Cinelândia, onde tudo acontece, desde manifestações políticas até festivais de música, passando pelas famosas Paradas Gay, está um dos mais conhecidos bares da boêmia do Rio de Janeiro: o Bar Mamarelinho. Fazendo jus ao nome, todo o exterior do prédio é pintado de amarelo. Seu toldo é amarelo. Suas cadeiras e mesas são amarelas. Assim como o melhor chope da cidade. Também em seu interior predomina o amarelo. Amarelo do sol, do calor de verão. O ano todo.

Navegar é preciso, viver não é preciso... (*)

This reproduction of one of the caravels of Pedro Alvares Cabral was made at the time of the celebrations of 500 years of the discovery of Brazil in 2000. Despite being very realistic, it never sailed. Today is exposed in the Maritime Museum, seen here behind the caravel.

Esta reprodução de uma das caravelas de Pedro Álvares Cabral foi feita para comemorar os 500 anos da Descoberta do Brasil, em 2000. Apesar de bastante realista, jamais navegou. Hoje, está exposta no Museu da Marinha, visto aqui por trás da caravela.

The most interesting here in this photo is the contrast between the caravel and the modern Brazilian Navy helicopter that can be seen on the pier.

O mais interessante aqui nesta foto é o contraste entre a caravela e o moderno helicóptero da Marinha brasileira, que pode ser visto no píer.

"Feijão Maravilha"

These nice beans are seats for children, made for a playground shopping in Rio de Janeiro. The artist - Carlos Vergara - designed a space with banks beans, fences matchsticks and slides of leaves.

The benchs are exposed in a little shop in the Modern Museum of Art. The work of Vergara can be see also in a exhibition at the same Museum.

By the way, the black beans are the base of the carioca's meals!

Ah, and the title of this post (wonder beans) is the title of a Brazilian song, a recipe, several restaurants and a TV soap opera.

Estes simpáticos  feijões são bancos para crianças, feitos para um playground em um shopping no Rio de Janeiro. O artista - Carlos Vergara - desenhou um espaço com bancos de feijões, cercas de palitos de fósforo e escorregas de folhas.

Os bancos estão expostos em uma pequena loja no Museu de Arte Moderna. O trabalho de Vergara pode ser visto também numa exposição no mesmo Museu.

A propósito, o feijão preto é a base da alimentação do carioca!
